The Tree Mugger

thesustainable:

Liberated chicken is liberated.
These are the chooks on the community farm aka the chooks that prompted my reconsideration of keeping chooks, dependent on the conditions you provide for them.
Because you can be vegan and keep chooks as pets and garden residents, who happen to have pest control and fertilizer benefits. The question of what to do with all those eggs is there, but species that aren’t hybrids for commercial poultry  don’t lay as often, and what other options are there for those now domesticated chook species that are either going extinct or existing in farms with appalling conditions?
I’m probably out of my depth on this one, in ‘thinking aloud when I don’t have an answer yet’ mode. I’m increasingly interested though in the way that animals [and birds] fit into the landscapes of people who are pro-animal rights while responsible for animals in ways other than the standard domestic pets.
